Community Gym – Runcorn
A surplus garage at Runcorn Fire Station was converted to provide a community gym which could be used by various partner organisations, including the NHS, the Fire Service and a number of community groups.
To accommodate a new mezzanine floor the existing flat roof was removed and replaced with a new pitched roof constructed at a raised height in order to provide sufficient headroom. The existing structural steelwork was re-used to form the new roof thus ensuring components were re-cycled in the new building.
A single storey extension was also constructed to the front elevation to provide toilets, showers and changing facilities.
The thermal performance of the building was upgraded with cavity wall insulation, new double glazed windows and composite roof sheeting. New mechanical and electrical installations were provided throughout and the interior fully refurbished including wall linings, flooring, decoration and fit out.
